The Tourism Region of “Oeste” is particularly rich in ceramic handicraft.
Torres Vedras, Bombarral, Óbidos and Caldas da Rainha have an enormous ceramic tradition, although it has been in the old village of Óbidos that the magnificent artist of the 17th century, Josefa d’Óbidos, created a workshop of ceramic art. In Caldas da Rainha the famous artist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro created the most known caricature ceramic. At the present days, besides the highest levels of industrial ceramic expression, Caldas da Rainha, still has the Knowledge of handwork the crockery in traditional ways.
