Portuguese Silver Coast - short description
The West Region stretches along the Atlantic coastline, a rural setting bordered by the mountains of Montejunto. Benefiting from a mild climate, the Silver Coast is becoming increasingly noted due to its importance for tourism, especially enhanced by the Golf facilities available and its unpolluted beaches. Beaches such as Baleal, S. Martinho do Porto, Areia Branca, Santa Cruz, Peniche and Foz do Arelho, still preserved in their original natural conditions, make this Region a location of quality.
The baths at Vimeiro and Caldas da Rainha, Roman settlements and Arab fortresses, the Natural Park at Serra de Aire and Candeeiros, the Berlengas Natural Reserve, the lagoon of Obidos, the beaches, and the countless equestrian, rifle, fishing, sail, parapent, diving and surf clubs, serve as an example of the array of interests catered for in the West Region.
The Region is constituted by the municipalities of |Alenquer|, |Arruda dos Vinhos|, |Bombarral|, |Cadaval|, |Caldas da Rainha|, |Lourinha|, |Obidos|, |Peniche|, |Rio Maior|, |Sobral de Monte Agraco| and |Torres Vedras|.
«A fertile region slotted between the Atlantic Ocean and the massif that rises in Montejunto and overlooks the entire region in all its extension. This splendid area is a green strip of land sprinkled with white houses, uniting the maritime cost and the countrysite in a pleasant climate we wish to visit».
