And when midnight sounds an explosion of fireworks lights up the sky bringing joy and party for all night long. |

Multicoloured disguises and traditional costumes give life to the town; and entertainment goes on inside pubs, discos and local associations with balls. On Carnival’s Sunday and Shrove Tuesday the Marginal Avenue fills with people to watch the parades, where masqueraded people, fantasy groups and some social criticism provide lots of fun to everyone. |

Art “Xávega” – Traditional Fishing Historic Reproduction
|
|
| | Every year, during the months of May and June, each Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. , the beach of Nazaré revives the traditional fishing art – the art “xávega”. Fishermen, women traditionally dressed, and everyone wanting to help, pull in the fishing nets to the shore, in a choreography of strength and colour. Once the nets are opened, with the fish still alive and jumping, begins the historic reproduction of the Fish Auction, like it used to be in the 1930s to the 1950s, right there on the beach. Anyone can buy the fresh fish directly there, just by saying the correct buying order “chui”. |
| | Summer in Nazaré is always very lively. During the day, the sun, the sea and the beach please everybody; beach sports, nature observation tours, and pedagogical and environmental activities for all ages complete the days. At night there are all kind of entertaining activities: live music, folk dances, dance shows, every night a different performance. Streets and pubs are always alive and full of people. Summer brings along popular celebrations in the municipality villages and also bullfights on Saturday nights. The Jazz and Big Band Festivals are also part of the summer entertainment offer. |
