Pedrogao Grande, the incredible nature
Besides the historical and archeological side, the municipal district of Pedrogao Grande is known by being an exceptional place of encounter with the nature. For their visitors, the council offers several possibilities to take advantage of the time, in a different way, with the ecological scenery of Pedrogao Grande. Nowadays, the council begins to explore the natural resources, actually considered of great potentiality, so the visitors have the opportunity to participate in pedestrian walks and of practicing BTT.
In the summer, the visitors looks for the fluvial beach of the Monastery, the Dam of Mega, the “Albufeira” of Cabril and Bouça, where you can practice the sport fishing, boat walks and a refreshing bath, besides oar and canoeing. The municipal camping park valley of Gois also counts on many visitors.
But like all the councils of Portugal, the historical and patrimonial part is a side to be explored. Pedrogao Grande continues to develop and to grow around it’s historical centre. In that place, you can meet some of the most beautiful monuments of the council, as the Church of the Mercy, Mother church, Convent of “Nossa Senhora da Luz”, Pillory, Philippine bridge of Cabril and bridge of Pear.
Other monuments, as Sao Sebastiao's chapel, chapel of the Calvary, chapel of “Nossa Senhora dos Milagres”, Roman oven and tower of the clock are also great places of the council that counts on a great variety of fairs, parties and pilgrimages.
The “freguesias” of the council are Graça, Pedrogao Grande and Vila Facaia.
