Lourinha, an area of outstanding natural beauty, is rapidly becoming popular not only with holidaymakers but with those seeking relocation, retirement or an investment.
Situated about 40 minutes drive from the Portuguese capital Lisbon, Lourinha is easily accessible, yet has a true sense of being well away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
It is situated on the Silver Coast, which is so named after the long and wide beaches typical of the area. With their soft, fine sands shimmering in the reflected sunlight, they seem to be offering themselves up willingly for your enjoyment.
And with over 300 days of sunshine per year, there is always plenty of time to make the most of all that this enchanting location has to offer.
For too long, this part of Portugal has been overlooked as a holiday destination, if only because the less well-informed had not noticed this unspoilt and historically rich environment – until now.
Multi million investment will change the looks of Praia da Areia Branca
It has been signed on the 2nd April the construction contract for the urban renovation of the sea front at Praia da Areia Branca and Foz do Rio Grande (see PDF attachment for plan preview).
These works will give to the beach a new image of quality, represented by the construction of new facilities and infra structures, traffic rules, consolidation of cliffs, as well as new urban fittings and lighting.
These changes will cause important changes in the landscape, improving life quality and projecting the touristic position of the Lourinha council.
The construction works will cost over 2.5 million euros and will be phased in 3 stages:
A - Maritime promenade and cliffs;
B – Area at river end and Alto Maria das Neves;
C – Parking area.
On phase A, the project includes consolidation of cliffs and construction of new staircases, replacing the existing ones, but also new access to the beach, walking pavement and a wall, on top of the cliff. On phase B, works will include new walking pavement near the river end, with an esthetical solution reminding the sea waves. Also a closed bicycle road will be built.
A passage over Rio Grande has been projected, allowing permanent access to the beach from the parking area, where a number of minor modifications will take place.
The access to Alto Maria das Neves will be closed to traffic and will be paved. Current rails will be replaced.
On stage C, a large parking building will be built, with underground floor and 131 spaces.
Other facilities will include a large covered area, with a restaurant, a café and shops. This building, facing the sea, will allow diverse uses of this area.
In the nearby area, the existing leisure park will be renewed, with new sanitary areas and the demolition of the existent constructions.
